thiemo.net privacy statement
If you have an account on a thiemo.net based machine, you might be
interested in the following. Especially part two on "other people's data on
thiemo.net machines" is nice to know.
Personal information sent to the owner of thiemo.net
In general, no personal information sent to me will be given to people or
parties not directly affiliated with thiemo.net. Currently, this means that
such information will not be given to anyone else but me, Thiemo
Nordenholz.
Exceptions from this rule can be made if the affected person gives me
explicit permission in written text or by electronic mail to do so, or if
local or otherwise applicable law requires this action to be taken.
Other people's data on thiemo.net machines
Administration of computers and networks usually gives the administrator
lots of power. Other than "normal" users, the administrator can see what
all other people do at what time, read all the files and data despite their
permission settings, even write modifications to files without anyone ever
noticing (if not by noticing the changed content).
In the light of this, I like to make the following statement:
I do not access information other people store on thiemo.net's data storage
systems, or transfer over thiemo.net's networks unless one
(or more) of the following conditions apply:
- I am forced to do so by law enforcement, or other government
institutions where such action is required by law, local or other
applicable
- I receive complains, direct or indirect, about abusive activities
originating from within thiemo.net's hosts or networks
- I suspect, because of hints or complaints I have received, illegal
activities or content in the data stored on the respective account, where
"illegal" means in such a way prohibited that a danger of punishment for
me as a hoster of that activities or content is imminent
- The data is not protected by the protection mechanisms the affected
operating system (E.g.: UNIX-based systems, UFS permissions)
- I suspect unauthorized use of systems or networks, that is use breaking
the agreements that were met when providing the possibility to store data on
thiemo.net machines or networks.
